Full Day: Cu Chi Tunnels Cycling Half Day Tour (L)

Get a first look at Vietnamese history on this half-day tour of the historic Cu Chi tunnels. Bike through charming villages, learn how rice paper is made, and dive deep into the earth as you experience the bravery of the Vietnamese during the war.

Head out of Ho Chi Minh City toward Tan Phu Trung Village for a start of Cu Chi Tunnels Cycling Half Day Tour. Bike through villages where the scars of war are still evident. Ride along paved roads and dirt paths, past bomb craters that bear witness to years of struggle. Cycle through rubber plantations and observe the locals harvesters as they gather latex from the trees. Light lunch en-route. Visit rice paper-making workshop before arriving at the Cu Chi tunnels for the 15-minute documentary film about their creation. Learn the history of conflict amongst the Cu Chi people and their rivals.

Continue on toward the tunnel site where simple weapons for fighting are displayed here. Head down real tunnels dug by the Viet Cong and experience just how brave the Vietnamese were during the war. Afterwards, enjoy authentic Viet Cong food (the tapioca) in a historical kitchen. Hop back on the bus and transfer to Ho Chi Minh City and toward your hotel.

Very interesting and well explained by the guides. The ingenuity of the Viet Cong is to be admired as they re-used anything that the Americans discarded or was used by them. The site is becoming a bit over-commercialised and the number of tourists, I was one of them(!), spoilt the impact. However, if in the area, do visit.

The tunnels are amazing, the entry hatches well hidden and the tunnels so small but have been enlarged to accommodate Westerners, the heat and humidity would've made life in them very uncomfortable. I feel you definitely benefit by having a tour guide as it is more than just the tunnels that need explaining. Examples of using all the resources available including unexploded bombs, tyres, seized equipment etc. to produce their own weapons, clothing and traps.There are 20-40-100 metre tunnels you can go through and all have been widened etc. for us ‘big boned’ people. There is also a shooting range with live bullets if you fancy a shot or two and the usual cadre of souvenir shops. We set off early 7 am to arrive early and avoid the bus loads that arrive about 10 am. We therefore had quiet time with our guide to learn about the way of life in the tunnels,how they moved around and cooking, and inspection of tunnels ... you can choose to go through 20m 40m 60m 80m or 100m...you need to crawl for the last 20m .we also had the chance to fire anAk47 and M16. It’s a routine to go here and well worth it to see the resilience and ingenuity of the Vietnamese but might prove confronting. It certainly demonstrates what a nightmare serving in Vietnam must have been with the tunnels and booby traps. Don’t waste your money on the firing range. Memorable.

I was sceptical on this Attraction. However it is an amazing experience. Very well organised visit and perspective on a very unique aspect of history. Quite extraordinary history. One tip - travel there and back via speedboat. Quicker and more interesting form of transport from HCMC.

If you are claustrophobic, then better not try entering them. Please be aware that the tunnels are in midst of a jungle. The terrain is very uneven and so one has to plan carefully if small children or elderly people are along. I took my one year old son with me, and realised that I had to carry him in my arms for almost 3 hours (since using a stroller is not possible at all).Less

This is a half day travel experience - worth doing with a guide. I don't think it would be as informative without one. We were very imptressed by the tour company -Vietnam Travel group . It offers a very inexpensive, small group tour. I used this tour company when we went to the Mekong Delta and we were very impressed then.

Great experience, being able to access the tunnels is quite claustrophobic and they have been made bigger for tourists. The trip was made more memorable as our guide lived in the tunnels for 2 years so was able to give a lived experience account. The trip there is long but takes you through villages you would not ordinarily get to see.

We did the tour of the Cu Chi tunnels. We also got a chance to shoot some of the various rifles at a cost there also, although the bullets were 60,000 dong each and you had to buy a minimum of 10 bullets... we chose an AK47.

We booked a half day trip to the tunnels.Definetaly worth doing, We had a local guide at the tunnels that shows you around and explains there history.Very enjoyable.We had a stop at a handicap workshop who were effected by agent orange. on the way back stopped at a fruit market.You can go to a shooting range and shoot various rifles. we didn't go their

Yes everyone goes there, yes it is touristy, but if you can forget that it's a tale of human tenacity and endurance. Hire a guide.The one thing that made me very uncomfortable is that there is a firing range next to the food/drink stop where anyone can buy live ammunition (that's what our guide told us) and have a go.

So we did the cu chi tunnel today and it was amazing to learn about the history of this country and how the tunnels came about. It was an amazing experience and it needs to be on your must do list. I suggest doing it on a private tour as you're able to get a lot more done.

Very interesting visit to the Cu Chi Tunnels.Learning about how the Vietnamese defended their country against another occupation was a real eye-opener. How they moved around and lived in the underground tunnels is remarkable.Our visit ended with a 15-minute video from the era, very big on anti-US propaganda, I seriously doubt many American visitors sit through it all!

We had a wonderful guide who bought alive the life of the Vietcong who lived in the tunnels around Cu Chi. There is a lot of information if you get a good guide nothing much written if you go without a guide. Great fun shooting the guns worth doing.

He explained everything really well in very good English. We then were invited to enter the “tourist” tunnels and observed all tunnels, breathing bunkers, trap bunkers etc. We then went to the firing range and were given a choice of arms. I shot an AK47, the M60 machine gun was a little expensive as you pay by the bullet. Highly recommend itLess

There were 2 guys that did the tunnel about 200 meters in and they said it was awesome but extremely scary and they only just fitted. Our guide gave us lots of information about the tunnels and how they were used. Very clever design and very effective during the time they were in use. We did a half-day trip to Cu-Chi-Tunnels....Our guide Tuong lead us through the facilities and tunnels with huge background information on the tunnels and vietnamese history. He speaks fluently english (which is not normal here!) and took his time for further discussions. The tunnel itself are impressive and imho a must-do if you come to HCMC!

Great day our riding in the countryside for around 2 hours before arriving at the Cu Chi Tunnels. We rode through peaceful and beautiful countryside along the Saigon river. Our tour guide Mr. Cong was very knowledgeable and helpful. He was an expert in biking tours. Strongly recommend

Ele was our tour guide and was super knowledgeable on all things vietnam providing commentary on the 1.5 hr drive up and did so with a great sense of humor. Very excited cycling tour. The tunnels are much smaller than I imagined, as someone who is very claustrophobic I was nervous about the tour. You will need to crouch down to climb through the tunnels however they are in increments of 20m and it passes by quickly.
