I wasn't sure what to expect when I visited the tunnels. Many friends had gone before me, but I was determined to visit them when in Saigon for a business trip recently...I went down into the tunnels with my guide and crawled for 40 metres underground - it was dark, air was stale and so very cramped.Really hard to imagine that at the peak of the war, there were up to 12,000 soldier underground ..More

I was almost gasping for air after 8 minutes!Fun fact - the soldiers were of approx. 1.5m in height and weighed between 40-45kgs. Chu Chi Tunnels is away from HoChi Minh you can take bus ticket from hotel, it cost you about 160K VDN per pax. It's a historical place, you can enjoy the shooting experience at Chu Chi Tunnels. The cost of the bullet are reasonable with professional soldier guidance. Must place to visit when you visit Ho Chi Minh.

Saigon river tours was the company we selected for this tour. Our guide, Chi, was very personable and made the trip memorable. He was upbeat and injected humor often. Told personal stories of his family and how they struggles throughout the war years and the aftermath. The tour itself was both interesting and educational. You have to ask for Chi, he was great.

We were given demonstrations of how traps for the enemy operated and were really horrific. Many of us tried entering the tunnels which were stuffy, narrow and low. Initially I was determined to go the entire length but had to give up after 40 metres once it became very low.There was also a chance to fire an MK16 rifle, with the cost charged by bullets, 10 costing about £19. It is amazing how they were able to dig over 75KM of tunnels across various areas. To live, sleep, cook and fight the Americans for many months at a time, seems amazing. The tunnels, cookhouses, hospitals and booy trap are exposed for you to see. Very hot there but only an hour from the city.

The trip to the tunnels was fascinating and very educational. I learnt a lot, climbing through a tunnel was very eye opening, as was seeing all the secret entrances they have and the traps used. I would recommend coming here. Very interesting to learn about life during the war.

We had our own guide who took us here. So not sure if you came on your own if it would b as informative? We had done some research on the tunnels and being there was fascinating. As a country that was invaded and occupied for so long it makes sense they would have systems like these. Going down into the tunnels and moving inside was cool. I’m glad we went.

We had a great tour with Mr. Binh who was a war veteran and had a lot to teach about the war. Very interesting sights to see, but we were told some of the representation was not so accurate, based on our guide's personal experience. The gun range was expensive and very loud.

We recently visited the Cu Chi tunnels by boat and bus half day tour using a company called Saigon River Cruses. We were picked up at 11am from our hotel and driven 15 minutes to a river side restaurant, once there we were served a lovely four course lunch, beer was extra but not expensive, after lunch we got into a large motor launch and off down the Saigon river we sped at speeds upwards of 50 kph. We arrived at the tunnel complex in only 1 hr 20 mins instead of the 5 hrs some companies were advertising. The exhibitions of booby traps you see are harrowing, its how a peasant army fought the might of one of the worlds biggest super powers. They show you just how inventive and determined the Vietnamese people are. The tunnels themselves are a testimony to engineering and determination and if you decide to enter them you will get brief glimpse of the war and also just how hard it must have been, to live, fight and survive under those conditions. This is a real must Do when visiting Vietnam and an experience that will live long in your mind. The whole trip took about 6 hrs and then the company whisked us off home back down the river like some thing from Apocalypse Now...Thrilling...Exciting...Harrowing and thought provoking.Less

The experienced guides were excellent and gave an appreciation of how the Vuetnamese won the war. The tunnel entrances still look narrow but have been widened to allow most tourists to enter and get an appreciation of that it was like. Besides the tunnels, we saw bomb craters, were shown examples of traps etc. Worth the ride (takes about 1.5 hours from Ho Chi Minh city)

The Cu Chi Tunnels and visitor experience was amazing! We went by boat speed booked through this website, the operator was Saigon River Cruise. The speed boat journey took about one hour and totally enhanced the experience. Captain Jack Sparrow was driving not sure that was was his real name but great guy. Our guide was Kate and she was so knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining. We went in the afternoon and there were only about 20 people at the experience. As we approached we passed heaps of boats coming the other way from the morning tours, presumably this cycles as all the reviews we read said go in the morning as its quieter, I guess everyone else followed the advice. We were not rushed at all spent lots of time in every area, including the shooting range and tunnel crawl. The shooting is expensive 600k VND for ten shots but the money goes back into the local community so great cause. The tunnels are dry even in heavy rain so no problem if you feel claustrophobic there is an exit about every 20m or if you are game you can keep going for about 100m. The day we visited it was raining heavily, do not let this deter you it added to the experience in the jungle areas made us appreciate the conditions for both sides of the conflict much more. Amazing place to visit. We had a great tour guide who spent about 2 hours bringing us around the site. Well worth the visit. It does take time to get here. We got a speed boat transfer which took about 50 minutes.

My partner and I had been recommended to try this by several friends and it didn’t disappoint.While the boat takes around one hour from district 1 along the river , it allows you to see the exterior of the city, which in itself was interesting.We used a local guide and boat driver - if you’re not overly familiar with the history of the site and the “American War” then it’s a must.My partner who in well versed in the above didn’t find it particularly helpful with a guide but appreciated it regardless.It can be hot, a little crowded but gives you a perspective on the conflict in the country like no other once you go into these tunnels.That alone makes it a must for any visit to Saigon.Less

Kate was an excellent tour guide. She was very friendly and fun! The 1 hour speedboat ride was very comfortable and had snacks and cold water for everyone aboard. The Cu Chi Tunnels tour was really interesting but I suggest bringing ear plugs for when nearby the shooting range! The free bus ride back to the hotel is also a plus. Very interesting insight into how Vietnamese soldiers were able to evade enemy forces. Pretty hot but worth the visit and we were looked after well by our guide. The speedboat trip along Saigon River was a great experience and so was the trip back via bus. Recommended.

This was well worth the money as we were able to experience life along the river on the way to the Cu Chi Tunnels by speedboat and didn’t experience the crowds once we arrived. Crawling through the tunnels was an experience and its hard to imagine living down there and having to fight a war like that. The traps they set were shocking and it made you realise how truly horrible this war was. The tour around Cu Chi Tunnels was really informative and Kha was a great tour guide who spoke excellent English and managed to our a humorous spin on some of the more gruesome stories. We had an opportunity to shoot a gun and my daughter and I chose the AK47 which was the weapon of choice of the VC. This was followed by a short film which was quite difficult to hear and therefore a bit frustrating. Then a delicious lunch and the boat trip home. Fruit and cold drinks were in good supply on the boat in both directions. Loved this trip and regretted not using them for our Mekong Delta tour. Finally, we recommend everyone to try this out. Less

Although the movie is boring and long for kids.In my opinion this was the best small tour we did in vietnam in our month visit. The kids loved it , seeing the booby traps, watching their dad fire an AK47, and crawling a tunnel. Do yourself a favour and crawl a tunnel. For those who don’t like small spaces the first 15 m one is easy! You only have to bend over. I’m a smaller woman but my hubby was 120kg and he was ok. We did the The 30 metre one and this was enough for me and him. but kids were busting to do longer. Unfortunately you have to choose the tunnel length up front so you can’t go back for more. Kids that are confident and perhaps over 8 yrs could easily manage the 50 m. There are lights all the way along and a guide. It’s a must do! The lunch provided at the end was generous and made for an excellent ending to our day. Booked our Cu Chi Tunnels morning group tour with Speedboat & Bus in return two days ago. I love boats and rivers, so was excited for the boat ride part. Prompt pickup 7am in nice coach from my hotel, boat was ready and we left by 7:30. Light breakfast, small croissants, iced sweet coffee and fruit. Though the modern outboard is much quieter than longtail boat engines, the noise and wind at high speed makes the guide commentary pretty challenging. I loved the cooling breeze and thought the wide variety of boats and development on the river very interesting. Compared to Thailand and Cambodia, very little trash in the water, mostly just out of town where some run-down settlements dump their trash into the water. We did beat the crowds (my primary justification for the tour cost which is much higher than a typical coach tour), there were only a few buses in the parking lot when we arrived about 845, and it almost felt like a private tour with only a few other groups having entered. Our guide was excellent, providing much historical and political background, as well as dispelling some of the propaganda such as the existence of a full-blown hospital in the tunnels, which is not accurate. The exhibits on the horrific traps may not appeal to everyone, but overall I thought it was a great exhibit, to understand the dedication and ingenuity of the hidden three-level tunnel system including air vents disguised as termite mounds, with the opportunity to be escorted to crawl through a section of the tunnel reproductions (larger for us large tourists-originally sections were so tight that even the Vietnamese crawled on their bellies worm-like). Everyone in our group chose the short version, about 20 m underground. Very hot and confining. Some of us chose to try shooting the guns, at about US$25 for 10 rounds. Mind your ears if you are anywhere nearby. Some won’t like the noise of the shooting range, but it gave one a sense of what it might be like to be in the jungle and to hear gunfire that might be directed at you. The 20 minute documentary, produced by the Viet Communists long-ago, was about as sophisticated as our World War II propaganda, much discussion of the heroism of “killing Americans”, “the crazy devils”. The guide discussed how Vietnam has really moved on, and has since had deadly border wars with China that are of more political importance to them. Westerners, particularly Americans, not having lived in the war, seem to be more fascinated with the history.The lunch, served family style, was excellent including plentiful veggies and was in a nice outdoor setting contrary to what some have said. Beer was optional but only about $1 US.My only reservation was that, in my opinion as a boater, the captain, in seeking to pass a competitor’s fast boat (the only high speed boat we had seen on the river all day, not a purpose built tourist boat as ours) passed while in a confined bridge area and had to cross their wake very close to a huge oncoming barge. He could have waited two minutes and reduced the risk to nothing. All in all a great day and dropped back to hotel by 1pm for nap and afternoon sightseeing, while the buses are still in traffic headed back. Definitely recommend.Less

As soon as we arrived, we were warmly greeted and the trip to Cu Chi Tunnels on the speedboat was very charming. Fresh drinks and coffees were served as well as some fruits and complimentary Vietnamese “Banh Mi”.The tour itself - we thought - was very educational and interesting to learn from the Viet Congs’ perspectives. This isn’t your traditional tour where you just walk around and listen but instead you get to crawl and experience how much the Viet Congs had to suffer throughout the war. Bình made it very factual and provided great amount of details when we were touring.The shooting range was the highlight for myself, partner and sister. It’s all done in a very secure environment and god was it fun. We fired up the AK47 and M16. Other rifles and machine guns were made available.The tour ended with a very generous local Vietnamese lunch composed of many dishes.2 days later, I still think about this tour. You can elect to navigate “real” tunnels (dirt and excitement) but they’ve also built a more suitable type of tunnel for those who don’t necessarily enjoy navigating dark pitch tunnels. When we left the tour groups that arrived by bus were streaming in and the lot was packed.Our guide, Bao, spoke English well and was a great guide (funny too).I was worried about the portion where you go through the tunnels. I am a bit claustrophobic but it was not bad at all. There is a portion where you have to squat and shuffle through but other than that it is only 3-5 minutes to get through. There is a propaganda film from the mid 60s you see at the end but that isn't Les Rives doing, it is included with the admission for everyone. The lunch provided was great, lots of choices and on the boat ride up they ask for dietary restrictions and did a good job of accommodating them. They made us pork free spring rolls for example. The meal is served family style with large pots of food on the table. Our group didn’t make a dent in the ample portions they provided.The boat ride back included water and soda and of course a van ride back to your hotel.I cannot recommend this trip more highly than I do.
